"Mom, can you buy me some more LEGOs?"
I hear this EVERY time we go into the store these days. My youngest boy got his very first set of LEGOs for Christmas this last year and they have been the best present he has ever gotten. There are so many possibilities for his little mind in just the one box of 704 LEGOs and the extra green and blue building squares. If he's ever quiet for a long period of time, it's because he's playing with his legos. His little imagination builds everything from cars and boats and airplanes to castles and caves and "a house just like ours!". I never thought one little box of LEGOs could occupy him for such a long time!
While we were out picking out the new LEGO set we ran across the new LEGO Friends sets. We have two girls, ages 7 and 6, and they LOVE to play LEGOs as well. Once they saw the "girl" colors they just had to have them too. Now not only does the boy have his own set, the girls have their own as well. Granted they of course don't say in their own buckets but that's the fun of LEGOs. Combining them and seeing what you can make out of every one!
LEGO PRODUCTS
There are about 35 different LEGO products out there today. Most of the lines have multiple things with them such as the LEGO Star Wars. I can't even count how many different LEGO Star Wars things there are out there!
Some of the ones I know about are the LEGO Hero Factory (cool little dudes that you put together, each are around 40 pieces more or less). The Hero Factory has Villans and Heros so getting them just to battle is 1/2 the fun.
LEGO Super Heros is a big one in this house. LEGO Batman to be exact.
There's also Disney's CARS LEGO sets that have found their way into our house as well.
A new thing is the LEGO games. We just bought some for a friend who is turning 6. We got him the one pictured to the right. It's called Lava Dragon and it's for ages 7+ and 2-4 players. You've got to build the erupting volcano first. Then be the first to climb to the top of the erupting volcano and summon the gragon. It's a game of skill and chance that brings out the brave knight in everyone! There is also a Monkey game that I really want to get my son since we call him a Monkey. Maybe next Christmas that could be his present!
There's many more like the Harry Potter, Mini Figures, Kingdoms, Heroica, Dino and City LEGO products but we haven't gotten into any of those in this house yet. Give it time, I'm sure it will all come around!
LEGO VIDEO GAMES
There are so many different LEGO video games out there right now that it is hard to even mention a few of them. My son's favorite is LEGO Batman for the XBOX 360. I don't know how many hours I have spent playing this game with him. We also have LEGO Indiana Jones for the XBOX 360 but he doesn't seem to like that one as much. For my husbands birthday my son is buying him the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean (so they can play it together of course LOL). These games don't teach a whole lot other then hand and eye cordination and how to get to the next level. I've given up several times because I can't figure it out! But they are fun games.

LEGO VIDEOS
There are so many different LEGO videos out there on Yahoo! and on YouTube but this one is the one I found that I could sit through without having to listen to the "wonderful" music they put with the. Lots of different creations. It amazes me how they are able to do them all.
LEGO STORES
There are 27 States that have LEGO stores. There's some up in Canada and there's also some all over the world like the ones in Germany and Denmark.
LEGO stores offer so much more then just walking in and buying LEGOs. The store we have here in Concord, North Carolina you can actually sign your kids up for classes. They teach the kids how to build with LEGOs and certain things to make. Of course it is by age group too so the older ones get to build the more complex things. When we went the lady offered our kids to do the classes for $20 each and that included a military discount. I'm not sure if it is the same at every store but that's what we were offered. The Concord LEGO store also has a Master Builder Bar, where LEGO fans of all ages can view LEGO Club TV videos, play games, learn how to build cool LEGO models, take a trivia quiz, and much more. We've seen people in there when we first arrive at the mall and after walking around for 2 and 1/2 hours they are still sitting there working on their LEGO creations (kids and parents).

So it seems I may be playing with LEGOs for many more years to come (not that I'm complaining, I too love LEGOs). When was the last time you got to let your imagination run wild and build whatever came to mind?

Did you realize how 'generational' legos truly are? My brothers had a large lego collection back in the 60's/70's. My sons had a huge collection. And now my grandchildren love them as well. Legos are to the boys what Barbie has been for the girls. I can see legos going on for more generations. They are truly great.
I love legos. I love them even more after an article I recently read in Businessweek about how the company is investing millions to produce more female-friendly legos. I look forward to what they create, although I wish my generation had them. I'm sure your girls will love 'em!
This is my favorite toy to get kids, and I've bought a few for myself. Voting this Up and Interesting.
My grandson loves Legos and can now design his own vehicles and action figures. He has tons of the building blocks but always looks for new models. Legos are worth the cost because not only does it keep them entertained but it stimulates positive creativity. Enjoyed your hub.
Thank you for the Hub cassylu1981. I'm certainly the big LEGO fan and am starting a whole phase of creativity with my 4yo daughter showing great interest - I've 40 years of lego bricks for her (and me) to create with. They ARE more than just building blocks (and I can't stand it when people call them blocks).
Thank you Denmark - it's your greatest export! (with apologies to those who enjoy Carlsberg)

Awesome Hub! I loved my Legos and am glad they are still around for kids to enjoy. I may or may not still have a set around I play with from time to time!
